7/21/2020 Impact and Change in Oral HealthThe immediate impact the toothbrush had on our world was that more people could keep their teeth clean causing them to live longer. Another thing that the toothbrush helped us with wasm less mouth-to-mouth diseases and unappealing green and wooden teeth. The toothbrush as we know it today was not invented until 1938. However, early forms of the toothbrush have been in existence since 3000 BC. Ancient civilizations used a "chew stick," which was a twig with a frayed end to keep their teeth from aching. These "chew sticks" were rubbed against your teeth to keep them clean. also, the toothbrush changed the way we act about our hygiene as we know it today. It helped us take clean to another level entirely. without it we would probably have wooden teeth by a very early stage in our lives and have probably lots more mouth diseases and deaths from these diseases.
The bristle toothbrush, which is similar to the toothbrush we use today, was not invented until 1498 in China. The bristles were coarse hairs taken from the back of a hog's neck and were attached to handles made of either bone or bamboo. The only problem with this toothbrush was that it was very expensive and many people could not afford it. So 300 years later, William Addis started to mass-produce the toothbrush therefore making it easier to find in stores to buy. His toothbrush wasmade out of hairs from a hogs neck and had boar's hairs as the bristles of the brush.
